The Wine: A little-known fact is that the parents of Cabernet Sauvignon are Cabernet Franc x Sauvignon Blanc. This is one of the world’s most famous grape and found in every wine producing country. Originally from Bordeaux it typically produces full bodied wines with elevated tannin.

A deep dark and concentrated colour. It shows a rich core of intense fruits – blackcurrent and damson plum. Soft herbs and undergrowth are a welcome addition and provide nice layer and additional complexity. The palate is full and well weighted. Concentration runs front to back and some firm tannin stand tall. Nice now, out of a decanter or cellar for another 5-10 years.

Producer Profile

Situated about 40 kilometres south of Adelaide, this region does a good job of mimicking some of those Mediterranean areas north of the equator. You’re never too far from the coast here, which provides an adequate climate to grow grapes, but there is no hiding from the fact this is a warm region capable of producing full and powerful wines. With an increase in global warming producers are looking at other Mediterranean grapes.

Coriole was founded by Hugh and Molly Lloyd in 1967, and they released their first wine in 1969. The Estate is still owned by the Lloyd family and is now managed by Mark and Paul Lloyd. It is situated in the undulating hills of the densely planted McLaren Vale region just within sight of the sea and less than an hour from Adelaide.
