The Wine: A wonderful example of Sancerre. Sauvignon at it’s best. Bursting with citrus fruits, gooseberry and passionfruit. There a distinct mineral character, very typical for the region. The palate is awash with beautiful, clean acidity. Minerality is abundant and the texture and concentration is impressive too.

Producer Profile

Sancerre is a region located within the greater Loire Valley. It’s a region synonymous with the white grape Sauvignon Blanc, but reds and rosés are also produced here from the Pinot Noir grape. The vines are planted on three main soils: silex, terres blanches, and caillottes. Terres blanches is a continuation of the same Kimmeridgian clay that extends into Chablis, whereas caillottes is a stony soil, littered with fossils. Silex has a higher proportion of flint.

Anthony Girard, an endearing and energetic young winemaker, started his own production in 2012 after completing his training at the family estate. Attached to its Sancerre roots, he set up in Récy, a hamlet in the south of the appellation and takes on 8.5 hectares on excellent soils. Two thirds of these are composed of '' caillotes '' (Sancerre limestones) bringing freshness and fruityness to its wine and a third of flint for power and minerality.

Anthony leads the estate with rigorous work in the vineyard in respect of the soil and the environment to harvest grapes in full maturity, bursting with fruit.
