They were only slightly squeezed and then left for 14 hours to macerate before being gently pressed. The wine has been fermented without any addition of cultured yeast or enzymes for a period of four till five months. After the fermentation was completed, it was left to mature for several more months on the lees in order to gain more stability and complexity.

Producer Profile

Over a period of 15 million years, the Mosel River dug into a slated mountain range full of minerals that developed 400 million years ago. The slate erodes easily and its components decay and enrich the soil. They dissolve into the ground water and are absorbed by the vines.
The Mosel region is part of the warmest climatic zones in Germany. The river and soil’s ability to store heat and reflect sunlight minimise’s the annual deviation of temperature and maximise’s photosynthesis – making wine growing possible in this overall cool climate region.

Since 2008, the estate Witwe Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef has been managed by the young and talented winemaker Maximilian F. W. Ferger. His vita is a prime example of how at times happiness follows a detour. While the Bremen born vintner had always wanted to become a veterinarian, his passion for wine was sparked by a random conversation he had as a young man with an oenology student who raved about the beauty of growing wine. Today, to Ferger wine is a never-ending amour fou he remains committed to with head and heart.
