The Wine: Les Graviers is a negocant blend of Syrah from three sources in the Rhone Valley. The majority comes from the southern parts of the Drôme and Ardèche regions, and a smaller amount from vineyards around Tournon. 3 sources: 40% Ardeche Sud: Saint-Martin d’Ardeche, 40% Drome Provencal, 20% Rhone Septentrional.

The grapes for this wine are 100% de-stemmed. The portion of fruit sourced from the Ardéche is fermented in concrete and the fruit from the Drome goes into stainless steel. 90% of this wine goes into old oak barrels, with a small percentage only seeing time in steel. This wine offers everything you want from Northern Rhône Syrah in a bite sized piece. Medium bodied, with black and blue fruits. It’s full of spice, black olive and granite. Crisp acid and the fact it has only seen a small amount of old oak ensure this wine is approachable without being simple and boring. An incredible gateway wine into what the rest of this region has to offer.

Producer Profile

Julien Cecillon

Cave Julien Cecillon was founded in 2011 by Julien and his now wife Nancy Kerschen. Julien grew up in Tournon-sur-Rhône a small village opposite the famous hill of Hermitage. He was surrounded in his youth by great wine and iconic producers such as his cousin Bernard Faurie, and uncle Jean-Louis Grippat. It was at a very young age that he caught the wine bug and who can blame him. As soon as possible Julien took the opportunity to roam the globe, learning everything he could. This saw him in such cellars as Yves Cuilleron, Christophe Curtat, Fabrice Gripa, JC Cellars, Clos du Val, Saintsbury, Indevin and Saronsberg. It was during these years working in American that he met Nancy.
