The Wine: What is GG Riesling? When you see GG on the front of a Germany Riesling bottle this tells you that the wine is of Grosses Gewächs quality. This is assentally a Grand Cru classification of Germany wine that tells you the wine is for one of the most highly regarded vineyards on the country. These are the best, dry, Riesling that Germany has to offer and they are very special.

Ganz Horn is one of three GG Riesling that Rebholz produces. This vineyard is a sandstone site. Beautiful and expressive even at the young age. Ripe citrus of orange and tangerine jump from the glass. There’s a wonderful salty mineral character that is very present. Bright spice that looks like freshly grated ginger. The palate has wonderful texture, a hallmark of their wines. The fruit is ripe citrus with a slight tropical edge on the palate. Incredible drive and persistence on the palate. Outstanding wine.

Producer Profile

Hansjörg and Birgit Rebholz are now the custodians of this 3rd generation winery in the southern Pfalz, about 30 minutes from the French border and the Alsace wine region. They were once an insider’s wine, but now have a cult following worldwide.

Hansjörg Rebholz: For more than 50 years, we've been making wines containing only what nature intended for them. We do not chaptalize our wines (the addition of sugar prior to fermentation in order to increase the alcohol content), nor do we use a 'Süßreserve' (unfermented grape must added to the finished wine prior to bottling). We are certified biodynamic. Part of the VDP. Hansjörg Rebholz was Winemaker of the Year 2013 (Falstaff) and Winemaker of the Year 2002 (Gault Millau). Weingut Ökonomierat Rebholz has the top 5 out of 5 grapes rating in the Gault Millau (with 10 other winemakers). Also, Hansjörg Rebholz is one of the movers and shakers in the Grosses Gewächs movement in Germany.
